The regular season came to a close for the Skyline boys basketball team on Tuesday with a 55-37 setback to the South Barber Chieftains.
The first quarter was relatively benign with neither side being able to generate much offense. The score was just 8-6 Chieftains after the opening frame.
It was the second quarter that cost the T-Birds. They were outscored 18-6 and found themselves in a 26-12 hole at the break. Cole Patterson made 3 free throws and Dustin Weber hit a runner early on for Skyline, but then the wheels came off after they had cut the deficit to just 5.
Over the remaining minutes of the Q2, South Barber’s press forced the T-Birds into numerous turnovers, and even when Skyline did get a good look, the ball was rimming out.
Patterson and Brandon Abbott hits 3s after the break, but it wasn’t enough to keep South Barber from extending their lead to 44-23 heading into the final period.
Led by three field goals from Abbott, the Thunderbirds were able to cut a bit into the Chieftain lead in Q4, but they never seriously threatened and South Barber got away with a 55-37 victory. Skyline ends the regular season 2-18.
