It was the kind of game people love to watch. Two teams, playing hard. playing well. Leads growing then dissipating. Maybe a few too many free-throws constricting flow. It was a tune-up for post season and the last chance for teams to see what they still need to work on.
When the Pratt girls headed to Hesston to take on the #4 Swathers, it was a tell-game. It would tell whether the Greenback women had made an improvement from their first meeting (a 13-point loss). It would tell if the Pratt smothering man-to-made defense could stay with a high-caliber, high scoring team. It would tell if the girls had what it would take to get back to state.
The Greenbacks lost the contest 51-44, but came away with an increase in confidence and a very optimistic view of post-season. Coach Rausch was proud of the girls’ effort, but reminded them everyone is now 0-0 and it is one and you are done for the next four games. “We played three quarters of excellent ball, now we need to find that fourth quarter and finish against a good team.” Post-season starts with a home game with Ulysses next Tuesday.
