  • The Pratt Community College men’s basketball team has apparently taken up permanent residence in the Heartbreak Hotel. After leading most of the game against #6 ranked Hutchinson, the Beavers dropped yet another overtime game 78-70 against the Blue Dragons.
PCC led 30-25 at the intermission after racing to a 9-0 lead out of the blocks. Pratt led by as many as 14, 51-37, in the second half until a technical foul on a Pratt player seemed to turn the momentum at the 13:30 mark.
Hutch gradually chipped away at the deficit until regaining the lead 60-58 with 2:00 to play. Aaron Abram sank a pair of free throws for PCC with 6 seconds left to send the game to overtime. Pratt seemed to have run out of gas in OT, though, and Hutch pulled away for the 78-70 victory.
The shorthanded Lady Beavers gave the #3 ranked Lady Blue Dragons a pretty good tussle as well, falling 64-54 after leading by as many as 10 in the early going. “We couldn’t have played much better,” PCC women’s coach Stephanie Thompson said of her team’s first half heroics.
The Sunday afternoon rescheduled games came less than 24 hours after the Beavers had dropped a pair in ignominious fashion to Barton County. Neither squad played particularly well, the women losing 64-60 to a team they had previously beaten; and the men losing 78-56 in what was pretty much a dreadful performance.
At 4-11 (14-15), both teams will finish the regular season against Colby at the Beaver Dome on Wednesday.
