Viola Bertha (Stout) Hargis, 82, entered into the Creator's memory on Feb. 22, 2013. She was born Feb. 1, 1931, in Cowley County, Kan., to George S. and Ruby L. (Crow) Stout.
Viola was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on May 25, 1968. She enjoyed teaching others Bible truths at every opportunity. Viola was also the owner of Vi's Upholstery in Preston, Kansas where she upholstered many pieces of furniture for over 34 years.
The main focus of her life was serving her creater in any capacity possible, so, after retiring from the upholstery business, Viola entered the full time ministry work in September 1991, diligently sharing the Bible's hope for over 22 years. Viola was a beloved member of the Pratt Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses who will be missed dearly.
She married Tom F. Hargis on April 4, 1952, at New Kirk, Okla., and raised three children, sons Ivan and David, and daughter Susan. Family and friends joined them in celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary in 2012.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, George A. Stout, Benjamin Stout, Richard Stout, Wayne Stout, Forrest Stout and Lloyd (Eli) Stout; and by her twin sister, Iola Stout Dawson.
She is survived by her husband, Tom F. Hargis, of the home; sons Ivan and wife Julie Hargis of Haysville and David L. Hargis of Anthony, and daughter, Susan and husband Natividad Ibarra, Pratt.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 718 S. New St., Pratt.
