The Pratt Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams ended their respective seasons over the weekend, bowing out of the Region VI playoffs.
The Lady Beavers were dispatched by Coffeyville 73-61, ending their campaign with an overall record of 15-16.
The men traveled to Ark City to take on Cowley County where they were turned aside 67-49. The Beavers started out hot against the Tigers zone defense, hitting two 3-pointers on the way to building a 10 point lead early in the first half.
Unfortunately, the shooting touch went cold for Pratt as they managed only 2/20 from long range over the rest of the contest. Cowley took advantage of PCC’s cold shooting to come storming back and establish a 17- point halftime lead.
The Beavers cut the lead to 9 at one point in the second half, but ended up falling 67-49. According to head coach Jesse Shaw, “We could never could finish enough lay-ups, get enough stops, or drop the critical 3-point shots we needed to take the lead back.”
The PCC men’s team also finished their season at 15-16. That represents a two game improvement over last year.
The Beavers tied for 6th in the Jayhawk West, which is two spots higher than last season. “We’re apparently on the baby step plan,” Coach Shaw observed, “but our idea is to take these freshmen and speed that strategy up next year.”
