The Lord set Courtney Elizabeth Newman free on Feb. 28th 2013.

The Lord set Courtney Elizabeth Newman free on Feb. 28th 2013. Courtney was born on Dec. 8, 1990, and was the treasured daughter of Lori Carrell and Colonel (Ret.) Hubert Newman.
She attended Muncie Elementary, Warren Middle and graduated as Class President of the Class of 2009 at Leavenworth High School. At Leavenworth High School she was editor of the school newspaper and a member of the National Honor Society. Courtney carried a 4.0 GPA throughout elementary and high school.
She was now attending the University of Kansas and continued to achieve a 3.5-4.0 GPA and was set to graduate in May of this year, fulfilling the requirements for Dual Majors in Psychology and Sociology. She received her Heavenly Degree instead! She was a proud member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and was a Resident Advisor in Ellsworth Hall for the past two years. Courtney absolutely loved the University of Kansas and all that it stands for.
Courtney's faith in God was groomed at an early age through the teachings of her mom, grandmother, the Fort Leavenworth Gospel Service and at the Independent Missionary Baptist Church. Her faith in the Power of God and prayer never swayed.
Her love was for God first, her family, her many friends, KU (Rock Chalk), the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, traveling, eating out, crafting, Taylor Swift (yes-Taylor Swift), Skittles and KitKat candy bars, and watching Grey's Anatomy. Courtney loved to give gifts and celebrated every holiday on the calendar--as a matter of fact, she would force you to celebrate all of them (even St. Patrick's Day!). She loved all people from infants to Senior Citizens.
Courtney leaves to celebrate her life her mother, father, a grandmother that pampered her always, Ada Carrell; Aunts that loved her like their own daughter and spoiled her rotten, Paula Hughes and Cali Middlebrook; Uncles, Lee (Laketia) Carrell, Phillip (Kathy) Carrell and Paul Carrell; Great Aunts, Jeanette Starling and Jeraldine Kelley; an extended family of cousins that were like sisters and brothers to her; Best Friends and traveling buddies, Kayla Wildy, Kaela Williams, and Damon Manderscheid; Special Life Mentors, her cousin Carynn Smith and Laura and Ron Coaxum; and a host of many, many friends too numerous to attempt to mention.
Courtney's infectious and most beautiful smile, her generous spirit, love of life, practical jokes, and quirky sense of humor will be missed by many.
I thank God for honoring and trusting me with being the one she called "Mom-Mommy!" Do not be sad when you think of her, rejoice in knowing that your life was given the honor of being "touched by an angel--with a beautiful spirit and great sense of humor!!"
"Best Daughter in the Whole Wide World!"
Viewing will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2013, at Independent Baptist Church. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, at the church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to the Memorial/Scholarship fund in Memory of Courtney Newman at Armed Forces Bank.
