When she was still in high school, Angelica Botello received information in the mail about the Miss USA Pageant system and its Kansas affiliate. Her dad told her, "it's a good idea to try something new."
She tried, competing first in the teen competition, and a year later as a Miss. This weekend, competing as Miss Pratt in the Kansas All World Beauties Pageant in Derby.
Contestants are judged in fitness wear, evening gown, fashion wear and self-introduction. For a required community service component, she helped with the IHOP Pancake Day fund-raiser for the Children's Miracle Network in the Wichita area.
Botello is a graduate of Pratt High School and a student at Wichita State University, where she is classified as a senior, although she expects to take a couple of years to get the credits she needs for a degree in exercise science.
She is sponsored by a number of local individuals and businesses.
