Wayne W. "Jake" Williams, 93, retired farmer, passed away on March 20, 2013 at the Kansas Medical Center in Andover. Wayne was a life-long resident of Preston and Pratt County.

Wayne was born on Jan. 27, 1920 in Cadillac, Mich., to S. A. and Belle Dietz Williams. He graduated from Preston (Kan.) High School and attended Pratt Junior College and Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina.

Wayne served in World War II in the Army Air Corps at Eagle Pass, Texas. After the war, Wayne farmed in Pratt County for most of his life on the family farm near Preston. He was active in the Preston community, Preston Methodist Church, Democratic Party, 4-H, American Legion, B.P.O.E, and at one time ran for Kansas state representative.

Even though he retired from active farming in the 1980s, he still maintained an active participation in the family farm business and lived at home in Pratt until his death. Wayne loved people and would stop and talk to anyone. His gregarious and irreverent nature enlivened all conversations and "discussions" and will be greatly missed.

On March 11, 1943, he married Helen Nelson of Wayne, Kan. She preceded him in death.

He was also preceded by brothers, Paddy, John and Jack; and daughter Diane.

He is survived by brother, Lyle Williams, Muskegon, Mich., and sister, Claudia Long, White Cloud, Mich.; children, Douglas (Madelyn) Williams, Woodland, Calif., Don (Mary) Williams, Bel Aire, Diedra (Bill) Woolery, Clearwater, and Drew (Shirleyann) Williams (Wichita. He was a friend and confidant to his 23 nieces and nephews. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and step-grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

At his request, no funeral services are planned. He indicated to us many times, he preferred you to visit him when he was still alive. A memorial reception will be announced in the near future.

As he would say today to all "Sending 4 Big Hugs! May all your needs be met and all your dreams come true"

Memorials may be sent in care of Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt, KS 67124.
