A pair of Pratt High School Greenbacks figured prominently in the 2nd Annual Central Kansas High School All-Star Basketball Classic hosted on Sunday by Barton County Community College.
Seniors Payton Hoeme and Chase Hageman were each named Most Valuable Player on their respective victorious all-star squads.
Hoeme played for the American team in the girls game, coached by Jill Rowland of Sterling, who downed their opponent, the National team, 85-75. Hoeme received MVP for her performance in which she sank 5 field goals, 1 3-pointer and went 2/2 from the charity stripe to score 15 points. She shared MVP honors with St. John’s Amy Walters, who also had 15 points.
In the first boys’ game, Chase Hageman led the South team coached by Moundridge’s Vance Unrau to a 97-96 win in a game that was not decided until Smoky Valley’s Holden Hendrichs got a last-second put back to give the South team the edge.
Hageman was MVP by virtue of his 20 points that came as the result of 8 field goals, 1 3-pointer and 1/2 free throws.
A second boys game was contested, East vs. West, in which no Prattans were involved. The West squad prevailed 101-70.
