  • The Pratt High School softball team dispatched Smoky Valley on the road last Friday in relatively easy fashion, taking both ends of the twin bill 12-4 and 13-3.
The Lady Greenbacks jumped on the Lady Vikings early, plating 4 runs in the top of the first inning. “The Stockman girl (Smoky’s pitcher) throws as hard as anyone we will face, and the girls challenged her and made her throw strikes,” PHS head coach Mike Forshee reported. “ Lauren (Rambat) did a great job in the lead-off spot and just set the tone for the whole day.”
Rambat singled to lead off the game and Kinzie Spurgin reached via the BB. After a fielder’s choice, Dakota Jones reached on a dropped third strike to load the bases. After another out, Hayden Pixler then drove in Spurgin with a base knock. Bailey Gillig clubbed a triple to score Jones and Pixler and then Gillig scampered home on a wild pitch to make it 4-0 Pratt.
The Frogs put up another crooked number in the 3rd inning. Jones was HBP and Gillig singled. Taylar Fuhr knocked in both and then Fuhr scored on Destani Garten’s infield hit.
Meanwhile, the Smokies were only managing to put up scattered runs here and there against Kinzie Spurgin, who earned her second win of the season against no defeats, going all 7 innings, giving up just 2 earned runs and whiffing 5 with no walks. “Kinzie threw another good game,” Coach Forshee stated. ”She spotted the ball well.”
“Our defense is improving too,” Forshee added. “They made some smart plays behind her. I can’t say enough about our communication throughout the game and how important that is to making us a much better team.” The upshot was a 12-4 win for PHS.
Game 2 was an even more thorough trouncing by Pratt, as the Greenbacks again jumped ahead in the top of the first and never looked back. Spurgin drove Rambat in and Gillig drove in Jones and Spurgin to put Pratt up 3-0.
In the 3rd, Taylar Fuhr drove Hayden Pixler in and Destani Garten singled Bailey Gillig home. Fuhr later scored on a Viking error and it was 6-1 Pratt.
The Greenbacks applied the coup de grace in the top of the 6th. Pixler walked and was doubled home by Gillig. Fuhr reached on an error, then Bre Becker and Lauren Rambat each picked up a ribbie to put Pratt up 13-3. The game would end there as Smoky Valley was unable to answer in the bottom of the 6th and PHS had the run-rule victory.
“It was just a good complete game by the girls,” analyzed Forshee. “We had good pitching. Dakota (Jones) continues to get sharper. Our defense kept picking us up, staying with plays and making some tough outs.” Jones upped her record to 2-0, pitching all 6 innings and giving up just 1 earned run.
