  • On Saturday, the Beaver women’s soccer team traveled to play a spring Friendly against the University of St. Mary’s Spires at Leavenworth.
The match was a bit sloppy, but both teams were determined to win.
The Beavers started off well, controlling much of the pace and possession through the first 45 minutes.
Jasmine Torrente, Lauren Randall, and Alyssa Kinkelaar all had their shots saved by the Spires’ keeper as the Beavers continued to apply pressure.
A few early saves by Meredith McKee helped to keep the girls from playing from behind.  Makenzie Weishaar kept the defensive third tidy; sweeping away most of the Spires’ attempts.
The scoreless knot was broken in the 55th minute as Jasmine Torrente placed a brilliant corner kick at the top of the six where Alyssa Farrell was able to put a header past the outstretched arms of the keeper for the 1 – nil advantage.
That score would hold through the full 90 minutes. Meredith McKee was forced to make a few more key saves and Nousette Escoto put great pressure on the goal to help the Lady Beavers come out on top. This is the 1st match the Lady Beavers have won against a 4-year varsity team.
“The girls were great. They played with class and poise; despite a shortness of size and fitness,” said PCC head coach Jerrid Schicke. “It was  a good day for us, and a great way for the sophomores to finish their careers here at Pratt.”
