  • Recovering from a less than stellar outing a week ago at the Highlands, the Pratt High School golf team tamed the Medicine Lodge course on Monday and posted their first tournament victory of the season.
Pratt with 367 won the 5-school meet by 40 strokes over their closest competitor Chaparral with 407.  “It was a good tournament win for our young team,” commented Andy Kisner, PHS golf coach. “Although our team score is not low enough yet to contend at league or regionals next month, it is a step in the right direction. 5 to 7 shots better per man would put us in the conversation.”
Kisner was pleased that 5 of his players were in double digits, a benchmark that has often eluded PHS linksters in recent campaigns. “We had five players under 100 on a blustery day,” Kisner pointed out. “And on a course with very rough greens that made it impossible to hole a putt longer than 10-15 feet.”
The Greenbacks took the three top individual spots, with Tyler Skaggs winning individual gold medalist with an 86. “It was a great win for Tyler,” said Kisner.
Spencer Sullivan shot 90 and Navarre Strapp posted a 94 to capture the silver and bronze respectively. Alec Hampton (7th 98) and Skylar Stalcup        (10th 99) also brought home medals.  Hunter Walker was PHS’ 6th man, carding a 108.
Pratt’s JVs were also at ML. Zach Will shot 101, Cole Fincham 104, Ethan Gillig 118, and Dakota Hankins 138.
“This should give us a confidence boost going into the heart of our season,” Kisner summarized. “We are looking forward to getting some time to practice and work through some things.”  Practice time will have to wait however, as the linksters go to Larned for another meet on Tuesday this week.
