  • The Greenback baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to visiting Word of Life on Monday. After an 8-1 defeat in the opener, Pratt also dropped the nightcap 10-8.
The Frogs had a hard time getting the sticks going in game one. In the third inning, Garret Smith reached on a BB, then later scored after singles by Skylar Dean and Chase Hageman. WOL put up a 5-spot in inning 5 that gave them command of the contest. Dakota Venard and Garret Smith both singled in the bottom of the 7th, trying to start a rally for Pratt, but they were left stranded. That was all the offense Pratt was able to muster in game 1 and they fell by an 8-1 count.
In the nightcap, WOL jumped on top early, putting up a crooked number (6) in the first inning. They would only score 2 more in the next 5 frames, however, giving Pratt a chance to get back in the game.
Which is just what they did. Scoring 2 in the first, 3 in the 4th , 1 in the 5th and 2 in the 6th, the Frogs knotted the score 8-8 heading into the top of the 7th. Word of Life plated a pair of runs in their AB  and the Greenbacks failure to answer  gave WOL the win 10-8.
Easton Herring, Drake Evert, Chase Hageman and Dakota Venard each had hits in the losing effort.
With a record of 3-5, next up for the Greenbacks is a trip to Halstead Tuesday April 23 with a doubleheader beginning at 4:30.
