The Pratt Community College softball team dropped a pair of games to Hesston on Tuesday in contrasting fashion. In the opener, Pratt outhit Hesston but was downed 10-5 nonetheless, and in the nightcap the Larks simply embarrassed the Lady Beavers, dishing out a 14-1 thumping to sweep the twin bill.
In game one, Hesston efficiently scored 10 runs on a mere 9 hits while Pratt could only muster 5 runs off their 13 hits. Brenda Novelo singled and homered to rack up 3 RBIs for PCC. Taylor Oldham also had an RBI double, plating Sam Garrison.
Hesston took the lead in the 3rd inning, plating 5 runs on 3 hits—a two-run triple doing the most damage for the Larks. They were never headed after that point and took game one 10-5.
Kelsie Lungren had a pair of base hits from the lead-off hole for PCC in the nightcap, but the Beavers couldn’t take advantage. Hesston, meanwhile racked up base knocks and took advantage of Beaver errors to stick it to PCC 14-1 in the finale.
The wins kept Hesston two spots above the Beavers in the Region VI standings. At 13-13 in the Jayhawk and 21-25 overall, PCC was to have played Division 1 #1 ranked Butler County on Thursday but the game was cancelled due to arctic weather conditions.
A make-up game with Garden City is scheduled for Thursday April 25. That will be the final regular season match-up for the Lady Beavers as playoffs begin April 27.
