  • The Pratt High School golf team took 2nd place in their home invitational Monday, with three individual Frogs claiming medals.
    Pratt had 343 points as a team, behind only Wichita Independent with 327. Other team scores were 3. Kingman 352; 4. Chaparral 365; 5. Cheney 396 6. Pratt JV 435 7. Medicine Lodge 504 8. Lyons 510.
“It was a good bounce-back day for us,” according to PHS head coach Andy Kisner. “It was nice to see us play well on our home course. That was our best team score so far this season.”
Individual medalists for Pratt were Spence Sullivan (3rd 79); Tyler Skaggs (7th 83); and Navarre Strapp (10th 89). Cody Koehn of Chaparral was the individual winner posting a 75.
Scores were bunched fairly tightly on a day that was ideal for scoring. Ties were broken on the card, with Pratt just about breaking even on the card tiebreakers. Sullivan was in a 3-way tie for 2nd and ended up 3rd. Tyler Skaggs lost his tie for 6th and Navarre Strapp won his 3-way tie for 10th, so things worked out about even-steven for PHS on the tiebreakers.
Pratt’s other scorer was Hunter Walker, who posted a 92. Skylar Stalcup and Alec Hampton also played varsity for the Greenbacks, shooting 101 and 104 respectively.
A pair of JVs had good days, leading the JVs to 6th place in the 8-team varsity meet, besting Medicine Lodge and Lyons’ varsities. Zach Will had a 94 and Cole Fincham a 95 for Pratt JV. Ethan Gillig (112) and Dakota Hankins (134) rounded out PHS JV entries.
Spence Sullivan, Pratt’s top finisher on the day, attributed his success to a hot putter. “I didn’t miss anything inside of 6 feet,” Sullivan reported. “I was also hitting my long irons really straight.” PHS travels to Kingman to play in the CKL tournament on Tuesday. “It should be a good tune-up for the post-season,” Kisner said of the upcoming meet. “With our improved play, we may have some guys qualify.”
