  • The Goddard track meet is so large, they run heats of the 1600m. That’s what the Pratt High School track and field team was up against Monday night, in a meet postponed from last Friday.
Andale won both divisions of the 4-6A meet, with their girls tallying 121 points and their boys amassing an impressive 175. PHS girls were in the middle of the pack, 6th with 51 points. The Pratt boys found the going a little tougher, finishing 12th in the 13-school field with 12 points.
Weston Riner had the best day among the Greenback boys, placing in both hurdle races. Riner got 3rd in the 110m HH (15.83) and 5th in the 300mIH (42.05). Austin Gates took 5th in the shot put (45-5) to round out the Greenback boys scoring.
The girls were able to break into scoring territory with a little more regularity than the boys, but their number of placings and medals were also down from what they had been getting in smaller meets.
Paige Bailey had the highest individual placing by a Lady Frog, taking 2nd in long jump at 16-6. Pratt’s other jumpers also did well. Connor Reh finished right behind Bailey in the long jump (16-4) and also took the bronze in the triple jump ( 34-1). Jaci Kolm took 5th in the triple jump at 33-3. Adding Christina Fernandez, the jump trio also combined to seize the bronze in the 4x100 relay (51.8).
Jenson Maydew placed in both her throwing events, taking 3rd in discus (104-2) and 4th in shot put (38-2). In other field events, Chloe Cannata beat out teammate Morgan Strong on misses to take 7th in pole vault (8-0).
Frogs of Distance contributed as well. Adele Loomis got 5th in the 800m (2:30) and Kaylah Romine got 5th in the 3200m. That pair added Nicole Moreland and Cassidy Cronister to get 4th in the 4x800 relay.
PHS distance coach Kathy Hitz was pleased and excited with her charges efforts in the difficult meet. “All of my runners ran either season bests or personal bests,” she enthused. “Adele had a personal best in the 800m and Kaylah PR’d in the 2-mile. Kaylah’s mile was also a season best. Both girls competed well at a tough meet, which is what a coach wants to see at this time of year. At meets like this, you can’t always judge by the placings.”
“Joseph (Loomis) didn’t place, but he set an 11 second PR in the mile, breaking 5 minutes for the first time (4:53),” Hitz continued. “Cassidy Cronister improved her 800 by 5 seconds running a 2:45 split in the 4x8, and Nichole Moreland, running in only her second meet this season, came through with a 2:34 split to set us up well in the 4x8.”
