  • Lady Greenbacks capture CKL title

  • The Pratt High School Lady Greenback track and field team ran away with the Central Kansas League title at Sterling on Thursday. The girls piled up 125 points to easily outdistance runners-up Haven who had 95. The Greenback boys had a more-than-respectable showing as well, taking 3rd with 90 points behind Hesston (125) and Hillsboro (97).

The girls piled up 125 points to easily outdistance runners-up Haven who had 95. The Greenback boys had a more-than-respectable showing as well, taking 3rd with 90 points behind Hesston (125) and Hillsboro (97).
    Individual gold medals for the girls were pocketed by Jenson Maydew in the shot put (39-5), Connor Reh in the triple jump (33-11.5 —¼" farther than Wilson from Sterling), and Adele Loomis in the 800m (2:32).
    Weston Riner was league champ for the boys in the 110mHH (16:00) and the boys 4x100 relay consisting of Robby Eggleston, Skylar Dean, Riner and Devon Koehler also broke the tape (46.19).
    Silvers went to Maydew in the disc (114-5), Reh in the long jump (17-1) and 100m (12.97), Chloe Cannata in pole vault (8-0) and Kaylah Romine in the 3200m (12:24).
    A couple of the girls relays also took second place. The 4x100 of Reh, Paige Bailey, Christina Fernandez and Cannata ran 52.16. The 4x800 with Nichole Moreland,Loomis, Romine and Cassidy Cronister ran 10:20.
    For the boys, Austin Gates' 44-11 got him 2nd place in the shot put. Shawn Ramos pole vaulted 10-6 for the silver and Skylar Dean, on loan from the baseball team, got 2nd in the 100m (11.38). Ryan Landry, Devin Roberts, Riner and Josh Ash teamed up to take 2nd in the 4x400 relay (3:41.)
    3rd place medals went to Emily Hook in the javelin with a 101-09, Paige Bailey in long jump (16-4) and Nichole Moreland in the 800m (2:34).
    Robby Eggleston sprinted his way to a pair of bronzes, 11.44 in the 100m and 23.67 in the 200m. Josh Powell was 3rd in pole vault 10-6.
    Other girl placings in field events were: shot Samaria Kohman 5th 32-9; discus Kohman 4th 109-10 and Kayla Baer 5th 105-1; and pole vault Christina Fernandez 4th 8-0.
    On the track: Paige Bailey 6th 100m 13.31; and Kaylah Romine 4th 1600m 5:46.
    Other boys field placings: Anthony Cannata 5th shot 40-8; Austin Boshart 6th disc 119-10; Shawn Ramos 5th triple jump 37-11; Austin Gates 5th javelin 134-11; Johnathan Hurt 5th pole vault 9-0.
    On the track: Ryan Landry 400m 4th 54.47; Josh Ash 800m 4th 2:10.
    Forrest Mazey, head coach, said, "The kids gave great effort today and did some unselfish things, filling in on relays and so on. This should give us good momentum going into regional next Friday."
