The Skyline girls track team took 2nd in the HOPL meet on Thursday with 77 points. Norwich had 109 to win the girls division. Host Pretty Prairie had 118 to take the boys team crown. Skyline had 33 points to finish 9th.
The girls picked up points in all areas of competition, their team balance a big factor in their success.
Three Lady T-Birds made finals of triple jump: Morgan Flowers 3rd 31-3; Taylor DeWeese 5th 29-3; and Bailey DeClue 6th 28-2. DeWeese also high jumped 4-6 for 4th place.
Ashley Koirth placed 3rd in javelin (91-11) and 5th in shot put (31-10). Shelby Bender had a 4th in javelin (87-2).
In sprints, Morgan Flowers took 2nd in the 100m (12.81). Jessica DeWeese ran the 400m, taking 4th (65.78).
In the distances, Briana Neifert picked up a point, finishing 6th in the 800m (3:00). Brooke Fisher ran the mile and 2-mile, 3rd 5:54 and 2nd 12:49 respectively.
In hurdles, Taylor DeWeese took 6th in the highs (18.55) and Betsy Giles took 4th in the intermediates (54.68).
The Lady T-Birds tallied in all three relays as well. 4x100 1st 54.25. 4x400 3rd 4:38. 4x800 4th 12:37.
On the boys side, Roman Ibarra took 2nd in the mile (4:51), just getting nipped at the tape by a Stafford runner. He also finished 3rd in the 2-mile (10:46).
Dustin Weber also placed in a pair of events: triple jump 6th 36-6 and 110mHH 3rd 18.25.
Blake Lee captured the discus silver medal, twirling the dish 121-1.
The balance of Skyline’s points came from their relays. 4x100 took 6th in 49.52. 4x400 took 5th in 4:21 and 4x800 took 6th in 11:24.
The next action for the Thunderbirds is regional. They will head west to attend the meet hosted by Sublette. Field events are scheduled for 3 p.m. Preliminaries will go at 5:00 with finals scheduled for 6 p.m.
