  • It wasn’t as easy as the season finale last week, but the Pratt High School softball team dispatched Kingman 8-0 on Monday at Green Complex to advance to the regional semi-finals.
Pratt started out a little tight. The Eagles plated a pair of runs in the first inning after not touching home during the entire doubleheader last week. Those would be the only runs the Eagles scored, however, as hurler Brittnee Hill and the Greenback defense clamped down for the rest of the game.
Meanwhile, the Frog offense began clicking in the 2nd inning. With two out, Breann Becker lashed a double down the right field line and was chased home by a Kelsey Smith-Potter single. Taylar Fuhr reached on an error, Lauren Rambat had an RBI infield hit and Savanah Buntemeyer clubbed a triple for 2 RBIs to put PHS up 4-2 after 2 innings.
In the fifth inning, with one out, Hayden Pixler drove it past the 3rd baseman for a single. Kinzie Spurgin followed with a base knock, runners ending up at 2nd and 3rd as the Eagles kicked the ball around. Breann Becker plated the pair with a single.
PHS added a couple of insurance runs in the 6th to run the final score to 8-0.
“I expected Kingman to be scrappy,” PHS head coach Mike Forshee said. “I thought we held our composure and made some adjustments at the plate after pressing early. We did what we need to do.” Pratt will play Hoisington at Hugoton on Wednesday in round 2.
