A Turon 2-year-old was killed and three others injured in a one-vehicle accident Monday morning on K-61 about a mile and a half northeast of Preston.
A one-vehicle accident northeast of Preston on K-61 Monday morning has claimed the life of a Turon toddler and injured three others.
Killed in the accident was Craigjohn Vanzandt, 2 of Turon.
The accident occurred on K-61 approximately one and one half miles northeast of Preston at 10:18 a.m.
Ginny Coates, 27 of Turon, was traveling northeast on K-61 in a 1996 GMC Jimmy when, for unknown reasons, she went off the road on the right shoulder. She overcorrected, came back on the roadway then made an evasive maneuver. The vehicle rolled over three times and came to rest facing north on the right hand shoulder, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash log web site.
None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Vanzandt was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pratt County EMS transported Coates and a passenger, Jessica Coates, 6 of Turon, to Pratt Regional Medical Center where both were treated and released, according to the KHP web site.
A Lifeteam helicopter transported another passenger, Navaeh Smallwood, 5 of Turon, to Wesley Medical Center. No patient condition information was available for Smallwood.
