  • T-Bird trio qualifies

  • The 2A track regional at Sublette was bulging with quality performers last Friday. As a result, only the very best of the best athletes were able to break through and qualify for State. Skyline had a few of those, as well as a few non-qualifying but scoring placements.

  • The 2A track regional at Sublette was bulging with quality performers last Friday. As a result, only the very best of the best athletes were able to break through and qualify for State. Skyline had a few of those, as well as a few non-qualifying but scoring placements.
Kiowa County won the girls division with 92 points. Skyline was 10th in the 16-team field with 24. On the boys side, Meade had 94 to claim the team championship while Skyline was 14th with 14.
Freshman Roman Ibarra will cap a stellar inaugural campaign with a trip to WSU. The only T-Bird boy to either score or qualify for state, Ibarra took 2nd in the 3200m (10:49) and 3rd in the 1600m (4:54).
Two Lady Thunderbirds qualified for State. Freshman Jessica DeWeese and senior Morgan Flowers both made it in the 100m, DeWeese finishing 2nd (13.41) and Flowers right behind her in 3rd (13.48).  DeWeese also qualified in the 200m, finishing 4th (27.93).
DeWeese and Flowers added Ashley Koirth and Betsy Giles to finish 5th in the 4x100 relay (54.72), which placed but did not qualify.
Distance runner Brooke Fisher also got points for Skyline, but did not qualify to advance. She took 5th in both the 1600m (6:00) and the 3200m (13:00).
Flowers, DeWeese and Ibarra will compete at WSU next weekend in the State Track Meet.
