Responding to an upsurge in interest in crosscountry at Skyline, the BOE voted recently to allow 7th and 8th graders to participate in crosscountry next season.
Head SHS xc coach Lynette Freeman, who will also be in charge of the middlers, said several league schools have been clamoring for Skyline to add a middle school program.
“We’ve had quite a few schools asking us to host a middle school meet along with our high school meet,” Coach Freeman said, “so it seemed logical for us to have a middle school team, too.”
Freeman expects to have 5 or 6 SMS harriers next year, with 10 or more involved the year following. 4 middle school meets are already scheduled. With 20+ expected on the high school squad next year, it would appear that Skyline crosscountry is on the rise.
