Each year Pratt Community College recognizes faculty and staff who have gone above and beyond throughout the school year.

This year, Stephanie Wiese, English instructor at PCC for 13 years, was the recipient of the Professional Higher Education Association Instructor of the Year Award.

"I felt very honored to receive this award," Wiese said. "It's always an honor to receive an award that you were nominated for by your peers."

The award is decided by nominations that other PHEA members submit. Wiese has been a member of the organization for 10 years and has been an officer for the past five years.

Along with being an active member of PHEA, Wiese is also the department chair at the college.

Wiese said she went into teaching because she enjoys working with young people and chose English because she always enjoyed the subject and literature.

"The best part of my job is working with and getting to know the students," she said.

Wiese went to PCC for two years and received her Associates of Science degree before going to Fort Hays State University where she received her Bachelor of Art degree in secondary English. After that she received a Master in Adult and Continuing Education from Kansas State University.

Wiese said she has enjoyed her time at PCC and hopes to continue to grow as an instructor.

"I want my students to be successful," she said. "I am always looking for better and more creative ways to use technology to help keep them engaged."

PCC offers a variety of courses on campus and online leading to degree completion or transfer to a four-year college. Students experience one-on-one attention from instructors through small class size and personalized advising. In addition to PCC's main campus located 70 miles west of Wichita, programs and services are also offered in Winfield, Coffeyville and through the Wichita eLearning Service Center, 7920 West Kellogg, Suite 200.
