It was a case of missed opportunities for the Pratt Junior Legion baseball team as they dropped a 12-2 run-rule decision to visiting Alva.
Over the previous weekend, the Junior 86ers went 4-0 at Alva to capture 1st place in the Alva Invitational. Things didn’t go as well for Pratt Wednesday night at Green Complex, however.
The Alva Renegades plated 6 runs over the first three innings. Pratt scored one in the 3rd when Brandon Kelling drove home Jacob Kurz who had reached on a fielder’s choice and advanced on a throwing error.
The Juniors looked poised to put up a crooked number in the inning to get back in the ballgame when Dakota Venard followed Kelling with a walk and Seth Simmons singled to load the bases. But the rally died with the bases loaded on a comebacker to the Alva pitcher.
Pratt let another chance slip away in the 4th when, with the bases loaded on a couple of walks and an infield hit, the next batter fanned and an 86er was picked off base to squash the threat.
The nightcap was not completed at press time.
The Juniors will host Wichita East Saturday with games at 12 and 2.
