The Pratt Recreation Department offers programs throughout the year, but they kick into high gear each summer, especially with programming for children.
There is instruction in sports skills, opportunities for practice, fun activities that encourage kids to move and stay active, as well as quieter pursuits. Activities are held in various venues around Pratt.
202 kids are registered for Summer Youth programs, with an average daily attendance of 75. Kids race, play games, swim, fish, skate, watch movies, learn crafts and take field trips.
446 kids are on 41 baseball and softball teams.
62 kids are Little Sluggers.
163 are enrolled in arts and crafts.
158 are taking swimming lessons during June and 164 are enrolled for July.
56 infants and toddlers are enrolled for the June splash sessions at the pool and 65 for July.
15 youth are taking tennis lessons
500 games will have been played at Green Sports Complex by the end of the summer.
12 tournaments are scheduled.
42 older youth serve as umpires or keep score.
All that activity couldn't happen without a lot of cooperation, according to Recreation Director Bruce Pinkall. Cooperators are Pratt Community College, USD 382, USD 438, and Blythe Family Fitness. Most city departments are involved in some way.
