  • Charles Clifton Bishop, age 93, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at San Bernadine Medical Center in San Bernadine, Calif.
    Charles was born April 25, 1920, in Mulberry, Kan., to Charles T. and Mary Ellen Fletcher Bishop. He was the second oldest of six children. He lived in Ottawa and Gardner during his childhood years. He went into the U.S. Army in 1939 and was discharged in 1945, having served in the Battle of the Bulge with General Patton. He spent several years in Alaska.
    On Oct. 17, 1944, Charles married Jeanette Annamae Black. They lived in Los Angeles and Montclair, Calif. Charles was a carpenter by trade and worked for the city of Montclair before retiring to Victorville, Calif.
    To this union was born three children: Charles L. Bishop (Linda), Pratt, Leticia Cannon (Orville), Oak Hills, Calif., and Beverly (John) Surby, Tehachapi, Calif. He is survived by 10 grandchildren, Maria (Mark) Langford of Harrison, Ark., Mark Bishop, Medicine Lodge, Jarod (Nicole) Bishop, Pratt, Justin (Tiffany) Bishop, Wichita, Travis (Jenni) Bishop, Hutchinson, Shawnna (Jeffrey) Simpson, Pinon Hills, Calif., Kelly (Jordan) Herr, Victorville, Calif., Bradley Surbey, Huntington Beach, Calif., Chance Cannon, Apple Valley, Calif., and Heather (Jerry) Vanderbloom, Forsten, Ga. Also surviving are 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Faye Burns, Salina, Utah, and Betty Bishop, Hutchinson.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeanette; two sisters, Dimples Woodrum and Eunice Ledom; and three brothers, Kenneth, Allen and Lester Bishop.
    The funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 1 at the High Desert Funeral Chapel, Hesperia, Calif., with Billy Pratt presiding. Burial will be at 11 a.m. at the VA Cemetery in Riverside, Calif.
