Pratt County Sheriff Vernon has released the following information concerning the removal of old military ordnance from a Sawyer residence.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. on June 26 the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms Office out of Wichita notified the Pratt County Sheriff's Office that they had a tip of some military ordnance at a residence in Sawyer. The Pratt County Sheriff's Office responded to the residence and secured the area. The McConnell Air Force Base Explosive Ordnance Team was notified and responded to our assistance, said Pratt County Sheriff Vernon Chinn.
The ordnance, which was old military ordnance, was disposed of at approximately 11 p.m. on Pratt County Property. At no time was the public in danger. No evacuations were necessary even to the residents of the home where the ordnance was found. The address of the residence and names of the occupants will not be released, Chinn said.
The Pratt County Sheriff's Office investigated the incident.
