Four former Greenbacks continue to excel academically as well as athletically as their collegiate careers proceed at Emporia State University.
Ashton Neumann, Dominique Staats, Payson Maydew and Micah Swank have each been honored by the ESU athletic department and the MIAA conference for their efforts in the classroom and/or on the playing field this past year.
The school and the conference recognize scholar-athletes who maintain at least a 3.0 GPA on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. Those who earn at least a 3.5 and are also named all-conference in their sport are designated as MIAA Scholar-Athletes. A student-athlete who maintains a 4.0 is presented with the Academic Excellence Award.
Payson Maydew, a freshman on the track team, was the only Hornet named to all three ‘teams’. His 4.0 put him on the honor roll and earned him the Academic Excellence Award. His third place finish in the decathlon at the MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships combined with his academic record placed him on the list of MIAA Scholar-athletes. Maydew is majoring in Accounting.
Micah Swank, a freshman basketball player, also earned a 4.0, earning him the Academic Excellence Award and placing him on the Honor Roll. Swank is a Health Promotions major.
Dominique Staats, a freshman on the track team majoring in Psychology, was also named to the MIAA Scholar-Athlete list. She had a 3.51 and was all-conference as a middle distance runner.
Ashton Neumann, a junior softball player majoring in Health Promotions, was named to the Honor Roll carrying a 3.49 GPA.
Pratt High School and the community of Pratt are proud of these student-athletes who have continued carrying the Greenback tradition of excellence to the next level.
