A faulty transformer starts a small grass fire in the northwest corner of the county.

A Ninnescah Electric Cooperative transformer malfunctioned late Thursday morning just north of Hopewell and caused sparking that set fire to dead grass and weeds on the west side of the road next to a cattle feeding operation just north of NW 140th Avenue and 110th Street. The fire burned only grass and weeds but was not far from wheat fields. Firefighters from Byers quickly extinguished the small fire.
