Franklin graduated from Fort Hays State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture and biology. Franklin was on the Fort Hays State University track team and was a graduate assistant.

Theda graduated from Fort Hays State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education and a master's degree with continued work in special education. Theda was a past member of the Agenda Club in Greensburg.
Franklin and Theda are members of the First United Methodist Church in Greensburg.
