  • A month long internal investigation by the Augusta Department of Safety culminated in the arrest of Patrolman Jerry Ballinger on Tuesday, July 9, 2013.
According to Chief Tyler Brewer, Ballinger was charged with aggravated indecent liberties with a child. The name of the juvenile is being withheld.
Brewer advised, "This case was initiated by us based on rumors and other information. We acted swiftly. This has been very difficult for the good people of this department. We truly believe that we need to be transparent in everything we do and we clean our own house."
Ballinger was booked into the Butler County jail and the case has been transferred to the Butler County Sheriff's Office.
Comments by the Sheriff's Office have not been made available at this time.
