  • Dorothy M. Shepard passed away peacefully at the LifeCare Center in Haltom City, Texas, on July 11, 2013. She is preceded in death by her parents, Rollie and Paratha Myers, and her two siblings, Louise and Maurice.
    Dorothy was born on a farm in south Lyon County and grew up in Emporia. She graduated from the College of Emporia in 1938. Her favorite memory of those years was playing her trumpet at gatherings for Editor WiIliam Allen White and his guests.
    Dorothy moved to Haviland to start her teaching career in 1938. There she met Lee Shepard, and they were married in 1941. They had two sons, Charles and Conrad.
    Dorothy taught at Pratt High School for 15 years before retiring in 1980. She was involved in many organizations in Pratt and surrounding areas, BPW, United Methodist Women, and the Community Concert Series to name a few.
    Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Lee.
    Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Charles, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Conrad and his wife Kathy, of McKinney Texas. She is also survived by four grandchildren, David and his wife Tressa Shepard of Cedar Park, Texas, Sarah and her husband, Scott Settle, of Fort Worth, Texas, Nicholas and his wife Mandy Shepard of Anthem, Ariz., and Clifford Shepard of Shreveport La. Step-grandchildren are Adam Hagan and his wife, Lauren, and Amber Hagan all of El Paso, Texas. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
    The celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at United Methodist Church in Pratt on July 25th at 1:30 p.m., followed by inurnment at Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt.
