Born on October 30, 1925, our mom, Wanda, joined her ancestors on June 26, 2013, at 2 p.m. She fought bravely, finally surrendering after a long battle with both heart disease and Alzheimer's.

She passed as she had lived; full of the stubborn pioneering spirit with which her grandparents settled the Kansas plains. Shortly before her death she said, "I've raised three beautiful daughters. I feel complete."

She and her husband Arvon raised their daughters, Donna (Bennington), Sherry (Banaka) and Glenda (Payne) with a great deal of laughter that tied the family together even through difficult times. Their ability to laugh is epitomized by this quote from comedian, Bill Cosby: "Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive it."

You are welcome to join us as we celebrate the life of this amazing woman at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in McMinnville, Ore. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Wanda's name to either the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Foundation. To see her complete obituary and life history, please see
