  • The roar of engines could be heard over most of the town Saturday as Southwest Truck Parts held their 16th Annual Mud Run and Mini-rod Tractor Pull at the Pratt County Fairgrounds.
A KMRO event with $5,000 added money, proceeds will go to a Pratt charity. There were 203 contestants this year.
For the uninitiated, a Mud Run is an event in which the goal is to drive a vehicle through a pit of mud of a set length. Winners are determined by the distance traveled through the pit. If several vehicles are able to make it through the entire pit, the winner is determined by the shortest time taken to traverse the pit.
Vehicles are classified according to engine type and tire size and type, with similar vehicles racing against one another.
The Mud Run is typically one of the most popular events in the Pratt summer social season, and this year was no exception. The crowd overflowed the stands onto the adjacent hillside at the Fairgrounds. The attendance was large enough that concession vendors were busy all day. “It’s been pretty steady all day,” said Bob Smith who was working at one of the concession stands.
There was also a raffle held, with Stuart Miller winning the side of beef and Randy Ardery winning the Green Mountain Smoker.
