On Tuesday, the Pratt High School girls golf team had a nice performance to open the season at the always tough Nickerson Invitational. In addition to being played on one on the area’s more treacherous courses (Hutchinson’s vaunted Highlands), there were 12 schools in attendance, making it one of PHS’ more competitive meets.
The Lady Greenback linksters came through in fine shape, however, sporting two individual medalists and taking 4th as a team with 214 points.
Leading the way for Pratt was senior returning-state-qualifier Morgan Schmidt. Schmidt pocketed the silver medal on the day with a 43. She played steadily on the difficult course, not carding a score over 6 on any of the holes.
Joining Schmidt in the medals was Lauren Beardsley, who took 7th with a 49.
Rounding out the scoring for Pratt, Kayla Baer took 21st with a 56 and Shelby Richards shot a 66, good for 37th place in the meet that featured between 60 and 65 golfers.
Lexie Lanterman also played for PHS, carding a 76. Only the top 4 golfers count toward team scores.
The meet was won by Cheney who turned in a 204 as a team, and individually by Lane Evans of Maize South with a 36. The next meet for the girls was scheduled for Tuesday at Medicine Lodge, but it has been cancelled. Pratt hosts a home meet at Park Hills on Monday September 16.
