Pratt High fell to 2-2 on the season Friday night as they dropped a game to Lyons, who was celebrating its Homecoming. The final tally was 41-18.
Lyons struck first at 9:53 with a 50-yard TD pass. Pratt couldn’t mount any offense on either of its 1st quarter drives and the quarter ended 7-0 Lyons.
The second quarter was the killer for the Frogs. The Lions put up a field goal and a TD to go up 17-0. The final 1:11 of the half was crazy. Ryan McClure, the Lyons QB, escaped a Greenback rush and ended up tossing a big gainer, from where Lyons ran it in on the next play.
Down 24-7 with 37 seconds left, Pratt QB Brandon Ruckle connected with Derek Barnard for a 69 yard TD.
However, Lyons scored not once, but TWICE in the final 37 seconds to take back any momentum the Greenbacks had gained. Lyons had a long TD pass of their own with 21 seconds left. Then Lyons intercepted the Greenbacks next pass, and converted another TD as time ran out in the half. 38-6 Lyons.
Early in Q3 Lyons kicked another field goal to usher in the running clock at 41-6. Pratt showed some character as they kept fighting. They forced a pair of turnovers deep in Lyons territory in the 4th quarter— against the Lyons starters it should be noted, as the Lions went with their first string the entire game despite being up big.
Cesar Regalado and Brandon Ruckle each converted TD runs after the late Lyons turnovers. Final score 41- 18 Lyons. Pratt takes on Halstead next week back at Zerger Field.
