The visiting Thunderbirds evened their season record at 2-2 by taking an exciting 44-38 overtime victory from the Otis-Bison Cougars.
In the first half, Cole Patterson had a 48 yard run and a 10 yard run for scores. Dustin Weber scored on a 46 yard swing pass. Right before halftime, Daniel Hacker scored on a 15 yard middle screen. The score at intermission was 32-30 in favor of Otis-Bison.
Skyline took the lead early in the third quarter as Weber ran for 55 yards and then an O-B personal foul put Skyline in position for Patterson to sneak it in for the go-ahead score. Brady McComb and Brandon Abbott came up big defensively for the T-Birds, as they sacked the O-B QB to kibosh the ensuing drive.
At the end of Q3, Skyline had the ball and was driving, up 38-32. They drove to the 1 yard line where O-B finally stopped them. A momentum shift seemed imminent, as the Cougars’ Urban scampered for 76 yards to knot the score at 38.
Each teams defense stiffened and neither team could score in the final four minutes, sending the contest to overtime.
Skyline stopped the Cougars at the one-foot line in their OT possession. On their own ensuing possession, Cole Patterson took the ball around the right side for the clinching T-Bird TD. Skyline wins 44-38!
The Thunderbirds travel to Fairfield next week.
