For the second consecutive year, Pratt High’s Morgan Schmidt will end the golf season at the State tournament. The event will be contested Monday October 21 at the Crestwood Country Club in Pittsburg KS.
Schmidt earned the honor Monday at the 4A regional hosted by Mulvane but held at Quail Ridge in Winfield. The course was not playing easy, as Schmidt was one of only 7 golfers who broke 100 on the wet, windy day.
Schmidt posted a 55 on the front and a really nice 43 on the back for a 98 on the day to earn the 7th place medal. The regional was won by Taryn Torgerson of Buhler who shot a 75 in the less-than-ideal conditions.
Winfield edged Buhler 394-396 for the team title. Local course knowledge may have played a role in the outcome. Pratt finished in 6th place in the 9-team field with 476.
Freshman Lexie Lanterman ended her first Greenback campaign with a 63-60-123, good for 25th place. Lanterman showed a great deal of improvement as the season progressed. To end the season, hers was the second-best score on the team. At the beginning of the season, she was only the fifth best, posting scores in the mid-70s over 9 holes.
Kayla Baer (59-68-127 27th) and Lauren Beardsley (64-64-128 28th) had solid seasons, each winning medals along the way. Beardsley had four top ten finishes this year.
Shelby Richards season also came to an end, shooting 70-67-137.
