  • For the second consecutive year, the Skyline volleyball team pulled off the HOPL double— winning the league regular season going undefeated, then also taking the end-of-season league tournament.
It couldn’t have gone much better for the Lady Thunderbirds Saturday at Norwich as they plowed their way through the HOPL tournament flawlessly, winning 6 matches in just 12 sets to capture the championship.
“We had a great day!  This was by far the best we've played all season,” observed T-Bird head coach Summer Younie. “We played aggressive the entire day. We attacked the ball well and played great defense.”
Scores from the matches were as follows: 26-24, 25-13 over Attica; 25-9, 25-13 over Stafford; 25-19, 25-8 over Attica again; 25-12, 25-10 over Cunningham; 25-8, 25-12 over Pretty Prairie; 25-10, 25-12 over Burrton.
It is apparent from the scores that Skyline was in control the entire tournament. The Thunderbirds’ front line was dominant, with 3 players each collecting over 30 kills on the day: Taylor DeWeese had 33, Kaitlyn Stark 31 and Alyssa Swonger 30. Janessa Davis chipped in 24 kills.
Serving was also a strength for Skyline in the tournament: Stark had 12 aces, DeWeese and Shelby Bender each had 8. Mycha Owens and Kamryn Stark each added 6 aces.
“I couldn’t be more proud of how the girls played,” concluded Coach Younie.
Next up for the Lady T-Birds is senior night on Tuesday October 22 as they host a triangular with Macksville and Word of Life. Skyline will also host a 2A sub-state next Saturday October 26.
