If you’re one of those who senses that life is passing by too quickly, you won’t like this bit of info: Yes, ladies and germs, it’s already basketball season! And with baseball (World Series) still going on!
Pratt Community College basketball tipped off the home season Wednesday with the men and women both hosting “game-like scrimmages.” At 4 p.m., the men took on Friends University. Afterwards, the Lady Beavers hosted the Sterling Lady Warriors.
Against the Friends Falcons, PCC got off to a hot start. They had built a 10-point lead by the middle of the second half. At that juncture, PCC had a little bit of trouble solving a half-court trap applied by the Falcons, and with 3 minutes left in the scrimmage, the scored got knotted up.
However, PCC tightened things up down the stretch, got some big baskets inside by 6’10” Kevin Allen, and eventually prevailed 72-65.
In the nightcap, the Lady Beavers played even with the Warriors for the first part of the opening half. By halftime, PCC had managed a slim 39-35 lead. Starting the second half, Pratt’s superior quickness and athleticism began to pay off as they stretched the lead to 61-48 with 10 minutes left to play.
Over the final minutes, the Lady Beavers maintained that margin, and ended the game/scrimmage ahead 75-62.
The PCC women will host Bethel on Monday October 28 at 6 p.m. The men’s next action is a rematch with Friends on Friday November 1, 7 p.m., at the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena again.
