The "fall back" time change brings with it the annual Last Chance Tournament at Park Hills. On Sunday, golfers from Dodge City, Great Bend, Alva, Medicine Lodge and Hutchinson joined numerous Pratt Countians on the links for a 4-person scramble.
While much of Kansas was being buffeted by gale force winds, strangely, the air over Park Hills Sunday was eerily quiet. Meteorological consultants might explain it as being like in the eye of the hurricane, or perhaps like that calm before the tornado strikes. At any rate, while the rest of the area was being blown away, the wind gusts at Park Hills on Sunday never got over a very manageable 40 mph. Many of the golfers expressed relief, as weather reports had indicated it was going to be windy. "We really dodged a bullet on the weather," said event organizer Darrell Shumway of the relatively calm conditions.
