Roman Ibarra was on the State medal stand at Wamego following the 2A boys race on Saturday after placing 18th in 17:59. A year after finishing 29th at State his freshman year, Ibarra improved both his time and his place enough this season to finish with some hardware.
“It helped Roman to have another year of experience and maturity under his belt this time,” Skyline head coach Lynette Freeman said of Ibarra. “Having been here last year, he knew better what to expect.”
Concluding her high school crosscountry career at State was senior Brooke Fisher. Fisher narrowly missed pocketing a State medal, finishing 22nd in 17:16. She had an outstanding career at Skyline, including a 3rd place state finish as a freshman and a 4th place state finish as a sophomore. She also attended State as a junior as part of the girls team when she finished 24th.
“The kids both ran well,” Coach Freeman said of her two T-Birds at State. “They really pushed hard up the hills. They were fighting the best of the best, and they both did really well.”
