  • Letter: Say thanks to a veteran every day

    • email print
  • Dear Editor:
It takes courage for a soldier to risk life and limb for his and her Country so we can keep FREEDOM. America's veterans embody the ideals upon which America was founded more than 237 years ago.
On this Veterans Day, we encourage everyone to take time to recognize and express our deepest gratitude to the men and women who are serving and have served our country. That is the basis of the Veterans Day celebration. And this celebration should be done every day!! Veterans remind the younger generation of their duty towards their country and inspire them to uphold the tradition of "liberty, fraternity, and equality".
"The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation." – George Washington
Through the American Red Cross Services to the Armed Forces programs, it truly has been an honor to work with veterans and current active duty military members each and every day through communication and support. More than 7,000 Red Cross volunteers dedicate their time to this program impacting nearly 23 million veterans, three million military families, and more than one million active Armed Forces.
When you see a Veteran or any military personnel, stop and simply say "Thank You" and tell them how much we appreciate them. Ask them what you can do for them because they have done so much for us.
    With Gratitude,
    Donna Meier Pfeifer
