The Pratt High girls golf team enjoyed another good year on the links in 2013. Each of the girls on the squad met with success, and/or showed improvement throughout the campaign.
The team finished 4th in meets three times (Nickerson, Pratt, Hoisington) early on, and then captured 2nd at Pretty Prairie and CKL later in the season, attesting to the squad’s improvement.
Morgan Schmidt was again the brightest spot for the lady linksters, placing in the top ten in every regular season meet, and topping it off with a 40th place at the State meet. Schmidt was again the lone Pratt representative at State, and ironically, she placed in the same position as she had the previous year.
Highlights of the year for Schmidt included shooting under 45 in each of her 9-hole meets (Nickerson, Pratt and Pretty Prairie), and finishing 2nd, 2nd and 3rd in those. She also finished 7th at the league and regional meets, earning medals in both of those.
Lauren Beardsley was often the Frogs second-best finisher. She had 4 top-ten finishes, including CKL where she took 8th, right behind Schmidt. She shot a 48 on her home course, which might have been her best round of the season.
Kayla Baer was often a factor for the Lady Greenbacks. She had four top-twenty finishes, with maybe her best meet coming at league where she posted a 110 to finish 12th. Shelby Richard was perhaps the most consistent Lady Frog, usually carding scores in the 67, 68 range in most tournaments.
Freshman Lexie Lanterman showed the most individual improvement over the season. She posted a 76 in the first meet of the season, but she shot 63-60-123 in the regional— making her Pratt’s second best golfer at that meet.
Morgan Schmidt graduates this spring, but the rest of the squad will be back next year for PHS head coach Kerry Thieme.
