  • The Pratt County Commissioners have offered the position of Community Service Coordinator to Nancy Smith.
The position is subject to Smith’s acceptance and the completion of a background check, said Pratt County Counselor Bob Schmisseur at the regular weekly commission meeting Monday night.
The community service coordinator is responsible for organizing the various activities that law offenders have to fulfill to meet their legal court requirements.
The position has been vacant since former coordinator Peggy Lee resigned the position earlier this year.
Among the various community service activities was helping repair and prepare the Lemon Park Lights for their annual display in Lemon Park.
Commissioners approved and signed a plat and replat of two areas in the county. The first area was a plat of the Sycamore Addition that includes the area around Hibbet Sporting Goods and Maurices.
The second area is a replat of the Penrod Business Park addition east of Pratt at Simpson’s Dirt Construction and Mike’s Repair on the south side of east U.S. 54 across the highway from Pratt Livestock Commission.
The primary advantage of a plat and replat is that it is a simple way of referencing a piece of property without going into the minute detail that is required for a piece for property in the city.
A safety issue at the Pratt County Landfill is getting a further look after Landfill Supervisor Jason Winkel presented several options for protective material for the scrapers.
Some construction material was coming in with metal mixed with other earth and it was causing delays to separate the material and some of the metal had broken the glass on the scraper and was a hazard to the drivers.
After reviewing the options, Winkel said the would show Pioneer Tank at the Pratt Regional Airport the needed covers and see if they could manufacture the safety covers at a lower price.
Winkel said he would look into it and bring the new cost estimates to the next meeting.
A storage problem on the fourth floor of the courthouse took another step closer to being resolved. Commissioners voted to accept two bids from Fred and The Boys Construction for the removal of storage cabinets and to make a door and roof access to give easier access to the area.
The cabinet removal cost is $960 and the door construction and roof access is $878.
Emergency Services Director Tim Branscom told the commissioners that some time in 2014, the county would hold two events to be better prepared in the case of a disaster in the county.
A tabletop exercise and a full-scale live exercise will bring together all the emergency services and a variety of other entities to produce contingency plans for emergency events the county.
Page 2 of 2 - Dates for the exercises have not been set.
Sheriff Vernon Chinn said his office would be purchasing a 2013 Dodge Charger for $23,500 as part of the ongoing effort to upgrade the department equipment. It is the third car the sheriff’s office has purchased this year.
