  • Margaret "Peggy" Artz, 85, passed away Oct. 15, 2013, in Green Valley, Ariz., where she and her husband, Dale Artz, retired in 1988.
    She was born Dec. 19, 1927, in Dodge City. She graduated from Dodge City High School in 1945. Peggy and Dale were married June 2, 1946, and moved to Larned soon after. They owned and operated Sandy's Grill and the Red Barn, a supper club.
    In 1962, they moved to Pratt to manage the Pratt Country Club, then on to El Dorado, Emporia and Dodge City. They retired and moved to Green Valley in 1988.
    Peggy loved golf, they were members of the Green Valley Country Club, and she also was a volunteer for the GVR Center, a recreation center in her housing area and a member of Red Hats.
    She is survived by her daughter, Sandy (Jon) Cummings, Dodge City; son, Dee Jay Artz, Dodge City; a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Artz, Colleyville, Texas; stepmom, Reva, California; and half (twin) brothers, GL McClendon, Hutchinson, and Guy McClendon, Emporia. Also surviving are four granddaughters, Jennifer (Shawn) Hulse, Bentonville, Ark., Page Artz, Dodge City, Teila Artz, Glendale, Ariz., and Jacqueline Artz; Colleyville; four grandsons, Eric Murphy, Wichita, Ryan Debes, Frisco, Texas, Jordain and Nicholas Artz, Colleyville; as well as a great-granddaughter, Claire Hulse, and a great-grandson, Christian Hulse, both from Bentonville.
    Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; mother, Ida Mae Holloway; father, Bud McClendon; stepfather, John Holloway; son, Beryl Eugene Artz; grandson, Byan Lee Hayes; and great-grandson, Bryan Murphy.
    At a later date, graveside services will be held in Larned in the Artz cemetery plot, where Peggy will be buried next to Dale.
