Alan Dale Hamm passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, in Colorado Springs, Colo., at 1:20 p.m. after a short illness.

He was born in Wichita, on Feb. 20, 1958, to Warren and Helen Hamm of Pratt. He attended Pratt High School, where he met his wife Candace Alingh. After graduating in 1976, he went on to attend the Air Force Academy where he studied astronautical engineering. Upon graduation in 1980, he married Candace in Pratt, and went on to become a fighter pilot through his Air Force service until 1987. He returned to Colorado Springs where he went on to work as a project engineer in space security for Aerospace Corporation until his death. 

He is survived by his parents, Warren and Helen Hamm of Pratt. He is also survived by his wife, Candace Hamm, of Colorado Springs; son, Matthew and Jamie Hamm and grandchildren Landon, Hayden, and Ava Hamm of Delta, Colo.; son, Jacob and Kimber Hamm and granddaughter, Olivia Hamm of Bremerton, Wash.; and daughter Emily and Joshua Schmidt, and grandson Isaiah Schmidt of Colorado Springs. He is also survived by his brother, David and Rose Hamm of Wichita, and his brother, Larry and Linda Hamm of Butte, Neb.; as well as his in-laws, Albert and Barbara Alingh of Pratt; and brother-in-law Mike and Pat Alingh of Emporia.

He was preceded in death by two infant siblings, Jerry Gene Hamm and Cheryl Anne Hamm.

Cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30 at the Pratt Church of Christ. There will also be a graveside service at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3 at the United States Air Force Academy Cemetery, in Colorado Springs.

Memorials can be sent to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Education Department, Colorado Springs, and Silver Maple Camp, Kingman, Kan.
