Liberty Middle School basketball teams traveled to Andale on Monday for their final games before the Thanksgiving break. The young Frogs were only able to take one of the four games against the Indians.
7th grade girls won another barnburner to account for LMS’ lone victory. After taking a 9-point lead to the halftime locker room, the Lady Greenbacks could only manage 4 points in the 3rd period and the Indians got back in the game. It was18-17 Pratt heading into Q4. There were three lead changes in the deciding stanza, but LMS was able to hang on for the win, 24-23. Ivy Stivers had 14 pts. for LMS7G while Allisan McGowan added 4.
8th grade girls struggled offensively, dropping a 26-10 decision. Brittney Clemons scored all 10 of LMS’ points. “The other girls were getting some good shots off,” Coach Pat Stivers explained, “We just couldn’t get anything to fall.”
7th grade boys got off to a slow start but came roaring back to make a game of it. The Greenbacks lost 33-32 on a last second Andale shot after a see-saw second half.
The 8th grade boys saw their record dip below .500 after starting the year with back-to-back wins. Although falling 54-31, Coach Derek Liggett felt that the boys played one of their better games of the season. “We got up and down the court very well and had some really good looks at the basket that just didn't fall,” Liggett said. “Overall, I thought the kids played well and have shown a lot of improvement the past month.”
