PCC wrestling defeated Iowa Western 20-15 last Sunday.
Last Sunday, the Pratt Community College wrestling team traveled to Council Bluffs, Iowa to take on the #14 ranked Iowa Western Reivers. The evening started at 125 where Dalton Snell took on #12 ranked Adrian Lozano and came up short in the bout with an 8-5 loss. Then, Skyler McComb picked up the slack by defeating Wilfred Charbono to put the bout tied at 3-3. After a technical fall at 141 put the Reivers ahead 8-3, #9 Korey Pfannenstiel defeated #12 Tyler Nation in OT and Austin Hughey picked up bonus points for the Beavers to notch the score at 10-8 halfway through the contest. After a loss at 165 by major decision, Cody Carson then capitalized with a 16-2 victory and put the Beavers ahead 14-12. The 184 match was the most exciting one of the night as Julius Coats took on #7 ranked Quinton Swanberg. Julius lost the bout by a riding time point at the end of the match added to the tied score but gave a valiant effort by coming close to knocking off a returning All-American. Then #5 ranked Kasey Crump took the stage against #8 Tim McDonald, whom Kasey defeated at the Iowa State Open the previous weekend, and Kasey pulled off another win to put the Beavers up 17-15. The evening came down to Heavyweight with the winner of the match winning the dual for their respective team. Beau Bergeron pulled off an upset against Nate Judge and catapulted the Beavers over the #14 Iowa Western Reivers, 20-15. “It was a big win for the team after losing such close matches to #16 Northwest Tech and NAIA’s Bacone College,” PCC coach Ken Kepley said. After Thanksgiving break, the Beavers will continue the season on December 7th at the Bob Smith Fort Hays Open at Fort Hays State University. They will then take on #11 Colby Community College in Colby, KS on December 14th. Before adjourning for the holidays, PCC will host the #25-ranked 2-time defending national champion Labette Cardinals in the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena on December 18th . PCC has never beaten Labette in a dual, so history will be made if the Beavers can prevail.
