  • The Pratt Community College men's basketball team got the New Year off to an early start, hosting Sunrise Academy in an afternoon scrimmage on January 1. Sunrise is a prep school in Wichita. The Beavers prevailed 82-68 in the loosely called scrimmage, even with two key members of their rotation still in Detroit after failing to connect with their post-holiday flight in time to make it back for the scrimmage. Returning to action that counts in the standings, the Beavers fell to Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa for the second time this season on Saturday. This time the score was 59-53 in what was a much lower-scoring affair than when the two teams hooked up in Pratt back in November. The Mavericks had won that one 75-66. Pratt led by 10 at halftime before letting the Mavs back into the game in the second half. With the defeat, PCC heads into the conference portion of their schedule with a 9-6 record. They will open Jayhawk West play Wednesday by hosting the Butler County at 8:00 p.m.
